Life sucks. Even when you’re dead.
Now that I have gone to sleep,
I pray the lord my friends don't weep.
But if they ever feel distressed,
My help is here at their request.
Charlotte Usher thought “death by gummy bear” would be the end of her troubles.
She was wrong.
Unfortunately, the stairway to heaven has a few more steps than Charlotte anticipated. Having graduated from Dead Ed, Charlotte is stuck working on a hotline for teens in turmoil. As she waits for the phone to ring, she finds that she really needs to get an afterlife.
But when selfish queen-of-mean Petula ends up in a coma, it’s up to her little sis, Scarlet to bring her back from the other side. Looks like someone will be needing Charlotte’s help after all…

What was your first job?
The first job I can remember was taking rocks out of my neighbors' yards and selling them back to them. I might splatter a little paint on them, to make them more desirable, or maybe less recognizable, but usually I would just take the rock as is, knock on their door and sell it back to them. But, my first 'real' job when I moved to New York was cleaning toilets at a record company. I got free CDs and could walk around saying that I worked at a record company.
What was your worst job?
Would have to be the toilets.
When you were little you thought you would grow up to be a…?
Drummer in a punk band.
All time favourite pop song?
Wow, that's really hard. I love punk, new wave, no wave, electronica, blues...etc. But I don't think anyone has or ever will write perfect pop as well as Brian Wilson.
Ketchup or mayonnaise?
It's a toss up.
Favourite sandwich filling?
Nutella and Tuna, not necessarily in that order and definitely not together!
Guilty pleasure?
I feel guilty when it comes to any pleasure.
If you were a superhero what would your power be?
To generate more powers on a need be basis.
Favourite book?
Anything by Edward Gorey.
What was your most embarrassing moment?
Well, tripping in front of a crowd of people never gets old.
Beauty or Geek?
I think all geeks are beautiful.
PRUE
Prue rules the dead world much as Petula does the living and is the RA of Hawthorne Manor, the dead dorm - or as the dead occupants call it - the 'worm dorm.' She is really good at being dead, having mastered many of the skills that Charlotte has only just acquired. Most everyone at the Manor fears her. Prue resents Charlotte's efforts to remain connected to the living world and believes that only trouble will come of it for all the Dead Kids.
Dead head bully...
PICCOLO PAM
Pam is Charlotte's mentor on the Other Side. Like Charlotte and the other Dead Kids, she died accidentally, impaling herself on her piccolo while show-boating during the all-country band parade. Now, whenever she speaks, a faint flute-like sound emanates from her throat. She's loyal to Charlotte and has become her most trusted ally.
I got the music in me...
DAMEN DYLAN
Hawthorne Hottie, Damen Dylan is everyone's object of desire, especially Charlotte's. She believes that if he really got to know her, he'd fall madly in love with her. He's handsome, charming and athletic but also more independent thinking and far more decent and down-to-earth than he lets on. Not much for academics, he's the captain of the football team and secretly knows more about guitar strings than String Theory. Along with his vain and devious girlfriend Petula, they pretty much rule the school. Guys want to be him and girls just plain want him. Every girl, that is, except Scarlet.
What a hottie, too bad he's alive...
SCARLET KENSINGTON
The coolest chick at Hawthorne, Scarlet is the only living person that can see Charlotte. She is a smart, savvy, independent but a somewhat jaded Goth girl who much prefers her own company to that of her older sister Petula and her sycophantic cheerleader friends 'The Wendys.' Scarlet is totally DIY -- with her Trash And Vaudeville style and jet-black bob. She is the dressed-in-black sheep of the school, definitely not a part of Hawthorne's 'mindless herd.'.
I see dead people...
PETULA KENSINGTON
The most popular girl at Hawthorne High and captain of the cheerleading squad, Petula Kensington spends her time making plastic surgery markings with bronzer on her friends' faces, admiring herself in anything reflective and dreaming up new ways to exclude people. Secretly envied by Charlotte and the rest of the student body, Petula could care less about anyone or anything but herself. Petula and Damen are an item despite the fact that they have nothing in common except a winning ticket in the DNA lottery and, well, because they are popular and that's the way it goes.
No extra seats at the lunch table here...
THE WENDYS THOMAS AND ANDERSON
Wendy Thomas and Wendy Anderson are more like Petula's backup singers than best friends. Not very independent minded, they are referred to as 'The Wendys' because they are thought to not only share the same first name, but to also share the same brain.
Got brain?
CHARLOTTE USHER
Hawthorne High's hopeless romantic, Charlotte Usher was out of step and out of time. She tried to fit in so badly that she ended up accidentally choking to death on a gummy bear in Physics class. Almost immediately, she 'wakes' up in a parallel spirit world where she still has to go to school - Dead Ed - in a special classroom filled with dead teens, all of whom met their demise by typical teenage misadventure. Now, as 'ghostgirl,' Charlotte refuses to let go of her dreams and the Living World, using her supernatural 'abilities' to win popularity and, most importantly, to win Damen's heart. Invisible both in life and death, she finds her self stuck in a world that she doesn't understand and still obsessed with a world that she is no longer part of.
Dying to be popular...
